Karen Bell and Lynne Davis, founders of Upfront Resolution, together have 46 years of experience in resolving employment disputes. Both are attorneys with extensive experience mediating and investigating issues in the workplace. Karen and Lynne were motivated to start Upfront after seeing the enormous cost to people and organizations when employment disputes go unresolved for too long. They believe there is a better way. Karen and Lynne have extensive experience in all areas of labor and employment, including hiring, discipline and separation, equal opportunity, compensation, collective bargaining, benefits, leaves and accommodations. In addition to Karen and Lynne, Upfront Resolution contracts with experienced employment mediators who can facilitate respectful and productive discussions and help the parties identify smart solutions.
Karen has served as the Chief Human Resources Officer for the Superior Court of California, Orange County, counsel for the Orange County Department of Education, and Associate Counsel to the Chancellor at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). She was the Title IX Officer at UCI and a Title IX Specialist at Purdue University. She has served as an impartial fact-finder in more than one hundred harassment and discrimination cases. She earned a J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center, a B.A., with distinction, from the University of Michigan, and a mediation certificate from the Campus Mediation Program at UCI. She also holds the Society for Human Resources Management-Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) credentials.
Lynne is the founder of an employment law firm that provides independent investigation services to private companies in a wide range of industries, as well as public entities. Lynne was a partner for over ten years in the employment counseling firm, Employment Matters Counseling & Consulting LLP, and worked in the Labor and Employment Department of the Los Angeles office of O’Melveny & Myers LLP, where she was promoted to the position of Counsel. Lynne also spent several years at Cooley Godward LLP. Lynne is a Charter Member of the Association of Workplace Investigators and earned a mediation certificate from the Straus Institute at Pepperdine University, the nation’s premier meditation program. Lynne earned her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School where she was an Associate and Contributing Editor of the Journal of Law Reform. Lynne earned her B.A. in Political Science, magna cum laude and with College Honors, from the University of California at Los Angeles.
Terry Bayer, Chief Operating Officer, has over thirty years of operational and business experience, having served as a senior leader in various companies. Most recently, Terry served as the Chief Operating Officer of Molina Healthcare, a publicly held managed care company focused on serving recipients of government health care programs. As a senior leader and operating executive, Terry has extensive experience in employee relations and leading a diverse work force and organizational culture initiatives. Terry earned her JD from Stanford University, her Masters in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley, and her Bachelor’s degree in Communication from Northwestern University. Terry also has a Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the University of Southern California, Gould School of law.
